LCCC Board approves LOI for student housing over The Hole and The Hynds

The Laramie County Community College Board of Trustees met on Wednesday October 117th. On the regular meeting agenda was formal consideration of its intentions to occupy about 65 apartments in Downtown Cheyenne.

The Board unanimously agreed to move foward with a student housing preference survey and determine an appropriate management approach. Download a copy of the Letter of Intent by clicking on the LOI link.

New construction is planned to cover the long-vacant “Hole” and The Hynds Building renovated for the mixed use project that also includes commercial and civic space.

LCCC Board to consider Hynds Capitol Core letter intent for downtown student housing

The Hynds Capitol Core project is on the agenda of the Laramie County Community College Board of Trustees regular business meeting on Wednesday October 17th.

The board heard the project at its study session on October 3rd.

The meeting begins at 7pm in the LCCC Board Room in the Administration Building. Previously, the Board heard a presentation by the Hynds Capitol Core team and by consensus moved the project to its October 17th business meeting at which time a formal Letter of Intent will be considered.

The Hynds Capitol Core project includes 65 apartments geared for LCCC students in the renovated Hynds Building and new construction over the vacant lot adjacent to the Hynds known as “The Hole”.  In addition to apartments, civic – commercial space is also planned for the project.

Gallery 71 sponsored by the Cheyenne High Schools Class of 1971 is hosting an art show and sale in association with the Deselms Gallery and LightsOn! Downtown Group.

The class seeks works from artists who are associated or were associated with the Laramie County School District #1 as students or faculty.

There’s a nominal $10 fee per artist. We’ll accept up to 5 entries per artists, however, the number of pieces shown will be dictated by the number of artists who participate. You’ll get a chance to determine which of your works will be hung.

Works of art may be of any media. If any of your work sell, there’s a 60 – 40 split with the Deselms Gallery.

Open House and Quick Draw Art Walk Friday July 22nd
Participating artists also may take part in the Friday July 22nd Quick Draw event. Artists will be provided a painting surface and set up at the Hynds Building and other surrounding art-related businesses. Open house – goers will get a chance to observe artists in action as they create works of art on the spot. More details will follow. Each quick draw entry will be auctioned off. The proceeds will be spit 50 – 50 with the artists and LightsOn! Downtown Group – a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.

The Hynds Building is opening for good on Friday night June 3rd. The LightsOn! DoorsOpen! reception marks the first time in 25 years that the historic venue will be habited.

There will be music, movies, art, food and socializing. Check out the new windows, restrooms in an urban loft-like atmosphere.

If you can’t make it to the event, you can tune in and watch a live Wyoming Community Media video stream by clicking on the poster on the left to go to UStream.tv but if you have a facebook account, you can view it on the LightsOn! facebook page.

If you’d like to be part of the video action and have an iPhone or Droid, add the UStream app and we’ll assign you a channel or set up your own account! Talk to people in the crowd, capture the music and live action and produce your own reality show about the historical reopening of the Hynds Building!
